Where to see pandas right now
Two of the three US panda zoos are open to visitors today. Zoo Atlanta's new pandas have landed but are in a standard quarantine period and cannot be seen by the public yet. Each card links only to official zoo pages — never to unofficial streams or reposted footage.

Yun Chuan and Xin Bao live in the zoo's Panda Ridge habitat and are on public exhibit. The zoo runs an official Giant Panda Cam, and also offers a paid Early Morning Pandas Walking Tour starting at $96 per person — park admission is sold separately, so budget for both. This is currently the only US zoo where you can book a guided panda experience.

Bao Li and Qing Bao are on public exhibit and the zoo's Panda Cam — online since 2001 and past 100 million lifetime views per the zoo's own FAQ — streams the habitat live. Entry to the zoo is free, but you must reserve a free timed entry pass online, and there is no separate panda ticket. Go early in the morning: at peak demand the panda line can close ahead of schedule, and the zoo suggests roughly a 10-minute visit inside the exhibit to keep it moving.

Zoo Atlanta confirmed on September 27, 2026 that its two new giant pandas have arrived at the zoo. They are now in quarantine and standard acclimation, which means they are not on public exhibit and there is no live cam of them yet. The zoo has not announced a public opening date — treat any date you see elsewhere as unofficial until Zoo Atlanta publishes it. The zoo's panda FAQ page is the place to watch.

New agreement announced — and the pandas get their names
Zoo Atlanta announced a new giant panda cooperation agreement and, in the same announcement, revealed the names of the two pandas bound for Atlanta: Ping Ping (平平), a male, and Fu Shuang (福双), a female.
September 24, 2026
Zoo Atlanta confirms the pandas are on their way
The zoo officially announced that Ping Ping and Fu Shuang were heading to Atlanta, confirming the transfer was underway after months of preparation.

The pandas have landed
In a press release, Zoo Atlanta confirmed that both pandas had arrived at the zoo. They are now in quarantine and acclimation — a standard, weeks-long process for any zoo animal transfer, and especially thorough for pandas.

As of September 29, 2026, Ping Ping and Fu Shuang are settling in behind the scenes. They cannot be visited, photographed by the public, or streamed. The zoo's care team uses this period for health checks and habitat acclimation.

First public debut
Zoo Atlanta has not announced an opening date, and we will not guess one. Watch the zoo's announcement page and panda FAQ — the debut date will come from the zoo, not from fan sites or social media.
Planning the trip: tickets, passes, and timing
The three zoos could not be more different to plan around, and the details matter. San Diego is the most expensive visit and the most controlled experience: the pandas are a stated highlight of the zoo, the official cam lets you check activity before you go, and the Early Morning Pandas Walking Tour at $96 per person (admission not included) gets you in before the general crowds — a worthwhile splurge if pandas are the whole point of the trip.
Washington DC is the cheapest panda visit in the country, with one catch: logistics. The Smithsonian National Zoo is free, but entry requires a reserved timed pass, and demand spikes whenever the pandas make news. The zoo's own FAQ recommends arriving early, warns that the panda viewing line can close early on high-demand days, and asks visitors to keep their time inside the exhibit to about 10 minutes so everyone gets a turn. Treat it like a popular museum exhibition, not a zoo enclosure you can circle all afternoon.
Atlanta is the one to watch rather than book. There is no panda visit to plan yet because there is no public debut date. If you are building a Georgia trip around the pandas, build flexibility in: quarantine and acclimation routinely takes weeks, and zoos typically announce debut dates with some lead time. The moment Zoo Atlanta publishes dates, this site's status card and the Atlanta page will be updated.
One habit worth building wherever you go: check the official cam the morning of your visit. Pandas have distinct active windows, and a few minutes on the cam tells you more about your odds of seeing them move than any static schedule.
